Tumor microenvironment (TME) refers to the complex and diverse multicellular environment of tumor origin, containing a complex network of blood vessels and lymphatic vessels that are connected and interconnected with each other and with the heterogeneous cancer cells present in the TME. TME contributes to the acquisition and preservation of cancer hallmarks to varying degrees, including maintaining cell growth signals, avoiding cell death, inducing neovascularization, activating invasion and spread to other parts of the body, and promoting inflammation that supports inflammation.
